In 2020, Prime Video surprised the world with an anticipatory anthology on human nature and our relationship to new technologies. The antithesis of Black Mirror — which chills the blood of spectators by imagining a future where new technologies gradually annihilate humanity — Tales from the Loop stood out for its poetry and its contemplative aspect. For the series, it was a question of honoring the pictorial works from which it was inspired, those of Simon Stålenhag. Four years later, Netflix aims to explore the world of the Swedish artist and designer. The platform summons the Russo brothers for the adaptation of the graphic novel The Electric State.
The story follows a teenage girl who travels through the Electric State with a robot. She is looking for her brother, who has been missing for a long time. Between the roadtrip and the science fiction film, The Electric State evolves in a context where a war between humans and robots led to the creation of a state for these animatronics. For several years, intelligent robots have lived in the Electric State and no humans have set foot on this soil. However, she is not the only one to follow in her brother’s footsteps; a federal agent is also actively looking for him.
Chris Pratt et Millie Bobby Brown
The Russo brothers find an actor they know quite well. After having immortalized him in the skin of Peter Quill for Avengers : Infinity War et Endgamethe directors offer Chris Pratt the opportunity to bring a new science fiction film. He is rather comfortable with this genre, having played opposite Jennifer Lawrence in Passengers and Yvonne Strahovski in The Tomorrow War. For his part, Millie Bobby Brown has never collaborated with directors before. She is nevertheless a regular on the Netflix shelves, since Stranger Things.

They have been teaming up since Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2014. Note that Stålenhag is involved. He is in executive production. It now remains to be seen whether the two directors will succeed in delivering a rich and tender retrofuturistic epic, as the synopsis and the first images suggest. Reply on March 14 on Netflix.
