I’m never using a Samsung phone without this app again

My Samsung phone always seemed powerful but strangely plain. The screen was excellent, and the performance was quick, yet I couldn’t shake the sense that it wasn’t living up to its potential. The built-in settings let me change wallpapers, themes, and a few basic options, but nothing made the experience my own.

That changed when I discovered Good Lock in the Galaxy Store. Within minutes, I realized I could finally make my phone look and work the way I wanted.

My Samsung phone felt too basic

Powerful phone, but too plain by default

When I first got my Samsung phone, it was fast, sharp, and reliable, but the interface felt too predictable. My home screen followed a strict grid, my quick settings were cluttered with toggles I never used, and, by default, I couldn’t freely place, rotate, or overlap apps and widgets.

Even small things, like no delete button on the screenshot toolbar and limited side-key options, made the phone feel rigid. I wanted shortcuts that saved time, cleaner layouts, and better control over what I saw on the screen.

Where real Samsung customization begins

Good Lock is an official customization suite from Samsung, available in the Galaxy Store. It is easy to miss if you never browse Samsung’s store, but it completely changes what you can do with your phone. When I installed it for the first time, I was surprised to see how many separate tools it offered. Each one customizes a different part of the phone, including the home screen, navigation bar, lock screen, notifications, and even animations.

Because it is an official Samsung app, I did not worry about compatibility or safety. I downloaded the modules I wanted, turned them on, and within a few minutes, I had customized my phone in ways I never thought possible.

Customizing my Samsung phone my way

DIY home screen layouts

The Home Up module unlocked the DIY Home option, which gave me complete freedom to design my home screen. I could make certain apps larger, rotate widgets, and even overlap them to create a layout that fits perfectly with my wallpaper. Placing my most frequently used apps closer to my thumb made one-handed use much easier. I also added stickers and custom text to match my current wallpaper theme, so the home screen actually looked like mine.

Gesture animations that match my style

Inside the same module, I found gesture animation tuning. Instead of being stuck with the default swipe gestures, I could choose between Classic, Elegance, Dynamic, and Sweet, each with a different look and feel. Advanced tuning lets me adjust the speed and style of every single gesture, from opening apps to returning to the home screen. The phone became noticeably more fluid, and I saw it every time I swiped up after unlocking it.

Better multitasking and navigation

Task Changer gave me multiple layouts for the recent apps menu. I switched to the grid view so I could see more apps at once, which made jumping between tasks much faster when comparing product pages or switching between chat apps during a group trip plan. NavStar lets me resize and recolor the gesture bar to match my wallpaper and even customize the navigation buttons with icons from my gallery.

Cleaner quick settings and notifications

QuickStar allowed me to resize the grid of toggles and hide the ones I never use, which made the panel look less crowded. I moved the Wi-Fi and flashlight to the top row, so I could toggle them quickly even in a rush. I also moved the clock to a new position and hid a few system icons to keep the status bar clean.

Recover deleted notifications and manage screenshots

One of my favorite modules is NotiStar, which keeps a searchable history of all notifications that reach your phone. This once helped me recover an important message a friend sent and then unsent. Nice Shot adds a delete button to every screenshot, so I no longer have to open the gallery just to clear the ones I take by mistake.

Lock Screen widgets and custom clocks

LockStar and ClockFace turned my lock screen into a dashboard I actually enjoy looking at. I added a large weather widget to check the forecast at a glance, a step counter to track my daily progress, and a rotating gallery widget with favorite photos. LockStar also lets me add health stats and stickers to give the lock screen more personality.

ClockFace takes it further by letting me create a custom animated clock. I tweaked the colors for the hours, minutes, and colon to match my wallpaper. And if I want to change the layout, I long-press the lock screen to open LockStar’s editor and move things around instantly.

Animated unlock effects

To finish things off, I used Wonderland to add a ripple unlock effect that reacts when I wake my phone. It is subtle but makes the phone feel fresh every time I unlock it.

And if I ever want to go back to the default look, Good Lock has a single button that disables all modules and resets everything.

The final touch my phone needed

Good Lock transformed my Samsung phone into something that seems built for me. My home screen is organized the way I like, gestures are smoother, notifications are easier to manage, and even the lock screen is useful instead of static.

These changes might seem small one by one, but together they make my phone faster, cleaner, and more enjoyable to use. Now my phone is truly mine, and Good Lock is the first thing I install on every Samsung phone I use.
