The Business Data Management and Protection Company Synology A new Business Division for the Southern Europe. At the head of it will be Marcos de Santiago as Business Unit European Director Europewith which we have spoken to tell us the reasons that have led the company to open this new division and the priorities they have for it, among other things.
(MCPRO) What has led Synology to make the decision to open a new division for the southern area?
(Marcos de Santiago) The creation of this new division responds to the strategic importance that southern Europe is acquiring in the technological ecosystem. In countries such as Spain, Italy or Portugal, we are seeing sustained growth in the demand for storage, safety and data management solutions.
In particular, Spain has shown great dynamism, with a sales growth of 170% in the last five years and an interannual growth average greater than 30%. This impulse confirms the potential of the market and reinforces our conviction of being more present at the local level.
In addition, companies in the region are taking firm steps towards digitalization, and Synology wants to be closer to them to offer solutions adapted to their specific needs. With this new division we seek to strengthen our presence, boost our alliances and be even more aligned with the concrete opportunities of the market.
(MCPRO) What strategic priorities does Synology have for this new newly created division? And for Spain, as part of this division?
(Marcos de Santiago) The priorities focus on three axes: local approach, channel expansion and sector specialization. We want to strengthen our partners and distributors network, offering training, support and tools that allow them to grow with us.
At the local level, we bet on a closer approach and adapted to the needs of the Spanish market: from small business to the corporate environment. In Spain, in addition, there is a strong interest in hybrid solutions and advanced data protection, so we want to lead that transformation with technologies such as ActiveProtect or our solutions of Smart surveillance.
(MCPRO) What growth prospects have regarding the business sector in Spain?
(Marcos de Santiago) The perspectives are very positive. Spain has matured a lot in terms of digitalization in recent years, and business fabric, including SMEs, is betting on solutions that integrate Safety, scalability and operational efficiency. A fact that supports it: About 40% of Ibex 35 companies already use Synology products.
But beyond large corporations, we see a lot of potential in sectors such as education, health, engineering or retail, where our NAS, backup and document management solutions fit perfectly. Our goal is to continue growing in this segment.
(MCPRO) Data protection, both in the cloud and local, as part of systems protection, is fundamental. What can Synology offer companies and consumers to keep their information sensitive to safe? And as for physical security?
(Marcos de Santiago) Synology offers a comprehensive security approach. In the logical part, our solutions have end -to -end encryption, immutable backup copies, intelligent deduplication, multifactor authentication and advanced access monitoring. In addition, tools such as ActiveProtect allow a solid, fast and automated disaster recovery strategy.
As for physical security, our integrated video surveillance solutions offer an additional protection layer for facilities, offices and data centers. Thanks to technologies such as Surveillance Station, it is possible to combine safe storage with advanced video analytics, which reinforces security on all fronts.
(MCPRO) How is AI influencing the improvement of systems protection, both physically and data?
(Marcos de Santiago) Artificial intelligence is transforming the way we protect the systems. In Synology, AI is applied at different levels:
- Predictive analysis to anticipate hardware failures.
- Anomalies detection that can identify suspicious accesses or ransomware patterns.
- Automation of responses that act immediately before threats.
In the physical field, the enhancement of our video-vigilance solution, allowing functionalities such as facial recognition, movement detection or the configuration of active areas. In the business environment, IA is also integrated into tools such as Synology Office Suitehelping to optimize collaborative tasks.
A good example of real application is the case of the Aeronautical Advanced Manufacturing Center (CFAA) and the University of the Basque Country, where our solutions promoted by AI have been key to improving the safety and efficiency of the technological environment. You can check the full case here.
In summary, it is not about using the tendency, but about applying it with a practical approach to tangibly reinforce the resilience, safety and efficiency of IT infrastructure.
