India came to a standstill on 22nd April 2025 when terrorists attacked Pahalgam, Kashmir, killing and injuring several people. In a retaliatory reaction, the Indian government today blocked access to the official X (formerly Twitter) account of the Pakistan government. The move comes at a time of escalating diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan. Almost 22 people lost their lives in the attack, and hence the Indian government is taking every measure to counter this heinous act.

Here’s Everything We Know So Far:

The Indian government has started implementing measures to digitally block Pakistan after terrorist attack on innocent people in Pahalgam, Kashmir. The attack was condemned by several countries and they are together with India at this crucial time.

Indian users trying to visit the @GovtofPakistan or type https://pakistan.gov.pk/, you will see a message stating ‘This Site Can’t be Reached’ and saying the account has been blocked in response to a legal demand. This means that while the account is still active in other countries, people in India cannot view its posts or updates.

This is not the first time when social media has become part of the political disagreement between two countries, especially between India and Pakistan. To recall, similar steps have been taken in the past when relations between the two nations turned sour. The issues mostly related between India-Pakistan covers the area like Jammu & Kashmir and Terrorism. Additionally, the incident has increased the cross-border tensions between both the countries.

Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval held a meti8ng with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and  taken this decision. In addition to blocking Pakistan X handle, the Indian government has taken other strict measures too including pausing of Indus Water Treaty, Cancelling Visa to Pakistan’s Citizen, and Closing its Indian Embassy in Pakistan.
