The Government of India has taken a significant step by banning 16 Pakistani YouTube channels in India for spreading communally sensitive content and misinformation against India.
Among the banned channels are major Pakistani outlets such as Dawn News, Samaa TV, ARY News, Geo News, and more. These channels collectively have a subscriber base of over 63 million, with content that has been banned for promoting false narratives against India, its military, and security agencies. This decision was made by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting after receiving recommendation from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
This decision comes amid rising tensions, particularly after the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The channels were accused of spreading false reports about the incident, which worsened the communal divide. While the timeline for the ban remains unclear, this move follows another related action where the Government of India also banned the official X handle of the Government of Pakistan.

In addition to the YouTube ban, the Indian government has implemented a series of diplomatic and security measures, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, the closure of the Attari-Wagah border, and the cancellation of the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme for Pakistani nationals. PM Narendra Modi has also condemned the attack, vowing that India will relentlessly pursue and bring to justice those responsible for this act.
