Amidst escalating tensions under Operation Sindoor, the Indian government is urging citizens to stay safe from cyberattacks. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has issued an advisory outlining crucial dos and don’ts for internet users across the country. The main aim of this initiative is to curb the spread of misinformation, maintain national security, and ensure that people do not become targets of online hackers.

With the war unfolding on the battlefield, it has now extended to digital platforms as well. MeitY emphasises the importance of responsible online behavior. The advisory, shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), highlights the need for vigilance against misinformation and urges users to verify information before sharing it.

Dos for Internet Users

  • Share only official advisories, helplines, and verified relief updates.
  • Fact-check news with official sources before sharing.
  • Report fake news immediately.

Don’ts for Internet Users

  • Don’t share troop movements.
  • Don’t forward unverified information.
  • Avoid posts that may incite violence or communal tensions.

In a related move, the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has advised OTT platforms, media streaming services, operating in India to discontinue content originating from Pakistan. This directive aims to safeguard national interests and prevent the spread of potentially harmful material.

As Operation Sindoor unfolds, the digital space has also become a critical front in ensuring national security. The government is advising citizens to remain alert, verify information before sharing it, and contribute to a secure online environment. These guidelines aim to prevent digital attackers from harming citizens while maintaining the integrity of information and supporting national efforts.
