Indie App Spotlight: ‘Backlot’ is your ultimate companion for finding TV shows and movies – 9to5Mac

Welcome to Indie App Spotlight. This is a weekly 9to5Mac series where we showcase the latest apps in the indie app world. If you’re a developer and would like your app featured, get in contact.

In this vast world of streaming, finding something you want to watch can be a challenge. Backlot simplifies that, and puts discovery, watchlists, and ‘where to watch’ in one singular ad-free experience, making it easy to find what you want to watch when you need to.

Top features

Backlot’s key feature is its Discover feed, showing you the trending movies, TV shows, and actors. This removes the need to hop between various streaming apps to find something to watch, and brings it all into one interface.

If that isn’t your cup of tea though, Backlot also offers universal search, so you can find insights on a specific show, as well as seeing where exactly it’s streaming. Finding where a show is can be challenging at times, especially as streaming deals change over time. If you know of a show but don’t know where to watch it, Backlot solves that.

Backlot also offers watchlists, allowing you to easily save any content you find within an app to a list to watch later. This list also syncs across your iCloud devices.

Lastly, Backlot offers a feature where you can just down reactions to a show within the app, just in case you’re interested in taking notes. If you’re a reviewer or podcaster, this can be helpful.

Download the app

Backlot is available for free on the App Store for the essential discover feed experience. If you want everything else, you can purchase Backlot Pro for just $2.99/month, $19.99/year, or $75 for lifetime access. You can get it on iPhone and iPad.
