A LUXURY vehicle company has phased out two of its models but reassures drivers that new designs are on the way.
By the end of the year, Nissan’s luxury brand Infiniti will have gotten rid of two crossovers and, in return, will be launching two brand-new models.
The car company will stop producing the QX50, it’s second-best-selling car in 2024, in December 2025.
The same goes for a similar model, the QX55, which will also be discontinued.
Both models have been fan favorites — but not without some complaints.
“The Infiniti QX50 gets comfort right, but it’s held back by its coarse engine and merely average performance,” Car and Driver wrote in a review.
Meanwhile, the QX55 has a “shapely design, good standard equipment, competent in the corners,” but its complicated engine isn’t powerful or efficient, per Car and Driver.
According to Infiniti’s fourth quarter year-over-year highlights,
QX50 deliveries increased by 2%.
However, QX55 deliveries decreased significantly by 26.9%.
Overall, Infiniti Q4 Sales (from October – December) declined by 2.3%, the report stated.
“While 2024 presented challenges in the marketplace, we’re encouraged by the steady performance of our crossover and SUV lines during the fourth quarter,” said Craig Keeys, vice president of Infiniti Americas.
“The launch of the all-new 2025 INFINITI QX80 marked a significant step forward in our product renaissance. We remain focused on building this momentum across the rest of our lineup, positioning INFINITI for sustained growth while delivering exceptional products and an unparalleled client experience.”
Infiniti senior vice president Ponz Pandikuthira said these changes are part of the company’s bigger plan to push Infiniti upmarket.
Pandikuthira stated that the QX50 and QX55 are beginning to look “dated,” according to Automotive News.
With this change in price and design, Pandikuthira acknowledges that customers may go looking elsewhere for cheaper products.
However, he maintains that the goal is to sell more expensive vehicles to produce higher profit margins.
Cars being discontinued for 2025
Dozens of cars won’t make it to the 2025 model year, including sedans, some SUVs, and sports cars.
Cars that are on the chopping block for next year are:

The QX50 will be replaced with a new QX60 model with three-row seating.
It is expected to launch next year, though an exact timeframe has not been revealed.
Alongside the QX60 will be the two-row QX65, which will replace the QX55.
The company said customers should expect to pay more for the upcoming models.
The QX50 sold for $43,000, and the QX55 sold for $50,150.
With these new changes, the luxury car company only offers SUVs with four major products: the soon-to-be-scrapped QX50 and QX55, the QX60, and the new QX80.
This revamp comes after Infiniti phased out its Q60 model a couple of years ago.
Infinity has also struggled with American sales overall, closing several dealerships at the end of 2024 and removing its Q50 sedan over the summer.
