Another round of x86 platform driver updates was sent out today for the ongoing Linux 6.15 merge window. Besides some fixes, there is also new hardware support making it into this week’s platform-drivers-x86 updates.
The Alienware m15 R7 gaming laptop powered by a 12th Gen Intel Core i7 processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics is now supported by the Alienware WMI-WMAX driver for various thermal controls. The Alienware WMI Linux driver has been seeing much work recently for various Alienware and Dell systems and now the m15 R7 is just the latest device being supported for thermal controls under Linux.
The other new hardware support as part of today’s pull request is adding Intel Panther Lake support to the Intel HID driver. Just some new ACPI device IDs are needed for the HID driver to work properly with next-gen Core Ultra “Panther Lake” systems.
Lenovo’s IdeaPad laptop driver meanwhile has enabled support for a few new buttons on newer IdeaPad laptop models. There are some new RF kill and microphone mute keys on these models, a user assignable “star” key, performance toggles, and other key code updates.
