Intel engineers today released LPMD 0.0.9, the newest version of their open-source Low Power Mode Daemon for Linux systems to optimize active idle power consumption on Intel Core processors.

The Intel LPMD daemon is one of the ways that those with Core Ultra laptops and even Core desktops can optimize their power use with the ability depending upon system load to rely on E cores and dynamically disable the P cores, among other features for tuning the SoC power draw based on system utilization.

Lunar Lake laptop with Ubuntu Linux

With today’s Intel LPMD 0.0.9 release the highlights include:

– Fix lpmd from processing HFI/WLT updates when it is not in auto mode.
– Improve README and other documents.
– Add support for graphics utilization detection.
– Add support for config states based on both WLT and graphics utilization.
– Introduce LunarLake platform specific config file.
– Minor fixes and cleanups.

Nice to see a dedicated Lunar Lake configuration file and the graphics utilization detection may be useful for further idle power tuning. Those building and running the Intel Low Power Mode Daemon from source can find LPMD v0.0.9 via GitHub.
