Announced last April, the integration of the HYC1000 system from the Italian manufacturer Alpitronic was initially expected to be effective before the end of the year. The first French stations, scheduled for December, ultimately fell a little behind schedule, a situation that will surprise no one in the world of charging infrastructure.

The megawatt is coming to the Autoroute du Soleil

After tests carried out on its site near Munich, Ionity is officially opening the ball in France. Two stations have just entered service: one in Maison-Dieu, between Auxerre and Dijon, the other in Sorgues, directly on the A7, the motorway of the sun. A strategic axis where we generally prefer not to waste too much time at the terminal. Each site hosts six HYC1000 charging points. In Sorgues, the inauguration has symbolic value: it is the 6,000th fast charging point (above 150 kW) in the European Ionity network.

Technically, the system is based on a central cabinet delivering up to 1,000 kW. This power is then intelligently distributed between connected vehicles. If only one vehicle is connected, it can theoretically receive up to 600 kW. With several people, power is shared dynamically.

Ionity puts forward a tempting promise: “ Up to 300 kilometers of range in less than eight minutes » for models compatible via a CCS connector. A performance that would almost make the current 350 kW seem like contemplative charging.

France is just the beginning. Across the Rhine, in Werne (North Rhine-Westphalia), Ionity is building what it describes as “ the fastest charging park in Germany “. Eight 600 kW charging points are planned there, with commissioning expected in the coming weeks. The site is located near the A1, not far from an Ionity park already equipped with 350 kW terminals.

Ionity is not its first change of strategy. The operator initially relied on 350 kW columns supplied by Tritium, before developing its own terminal design. This makes it possible to integrate technologies from different suppliers, so as not to depend on a single player. In December 2023, the company already inaugurated a fleet equipped with Alpitronic Hyperchargers. The HYC1000 is a new bearing.

According to Jeroen van Tilburg, managing director of Ionity, the power of electric vehicles continues to increase, and more models will be able to exploit these high levels in the years to come. The key: “ shorter stops and greater freedom on every journey “. The group now promises to extend the HYC1000 along major European routes, without specifying the next steps.
