Looks like Apple might finally be giving the iPhone’s cooling system! A new leak suggests that the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max could feature a vapour chamber cooling system, a tech that’s already pretty common in many high-end Android phones. The leak comes from tipster Majin Bu, who shared an image that seems to show a new copper plate design. It’s said to be part of this new cooling system, although Apple is reportedly still testing it.

What exactly is a Vapour Chamber Cooling system? In simple terms, it’s a smarter way to keep your phone cool. To keep the device cool, the system includes a tiny sealed chamber filled with a bit of liquid. When your phone heats up, the liquid turns into vapour. That vapour then spreads the heat more evenly across the plate and helps to cool down.

Compare that to what iPhones do now: they just spread heat through the metal and glass in the body. It works okay for regular use, but under heavy load, it’s not unusual for iPhones to get pretty warm. But why is Apple doing this now? This could be because Apple Intelligence and all the AI features are expected to come baked into future iPhones. These tools will likely run directly on the device, pushing the processor harder than ever. The upcoming A19 Pro chip, which is expected to power the Pro models, will bring more performance, but also generate more heat. So, better cooling just makes sense.

iPhone 17 Leaks: What Else Might Be New?

If the leaks are on point, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max could also bring a 48MP triple camera system and a 24MP front camera for the first time. As the leaked image shows, it is tipped to get a redesigned camera module too. A bigger battery for longer usage and 12GB of RAM for smoother multitasking. However, it looks like the regular iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air might stick with the usual cooling methods.

Of course, these are still early leaks, and things can always change before launch. But if Apple does go ahead with this new cooling setup, it could be a big update.
