Sometimes we have to reconfirm that 9+6 is still 15, so we turn to the privacy of our phones and check the sum on the calculator app.
Embarrassing, but who else would know, right? Well, Apple has decided it would be a great idea to dredge up our most embarrassing calculations so others can enjoy how mathematically inept we really are.
In a viral TikTok post that has racked up over 700,000 views, one Apple user revealed their calculator app now has a secret history. In the video, they said the app uncovered their habit of using the calculator for some very simple calculations.
They wrote: ‘Y’all please remember to clear your CALCULATOR history every once in a while. My boyfriend just saw mine and I would have rather him gone thru my internet history.’
Other iPhone users commented on the video to reveal their own embarrassing calculations. One wrote: ‘1×10…it was a difficult day!’ Another replied: ‘Nah why I got 35-1 in mine’ and a third said: ‘Lmao mine says 250-50’.
One viewer summed it all up and said: ‘You just have to make sure that nobody changed math sometimes’.
It should be noted that to see your calculator history users need to be running on iOS 18.
It’s recommended to update your software to the latest version anyway so you don’t run the risk of any security issues on your phone.
In terms of the calculator history, you will be able to see your calculations broken down into ‘Today’, ‘Previous 7 Days’, and ‘Previous 30 Days’.
How to find your own calculator history
First of all, go on to the calculator app on your iPhone. Then tap the icon in the top left hand corner to unveil your past calculations. This function will allow you to:
• Reload the calculation: Tap the listing. The calculation appears where you left off earlier
• Copy the answer: Touch and hold the listing, then tap Copy Expression or Copy Result
• Delete the calculation: Touch and hold the listing, then tap Delete
And if you want to delete more than one calculation at once, tap on ‘Edit’ at the top right corner of the main history menu.
You can then tap the sums you want to erase from history before pressing ‘Delete All’ at the bottom of the screen to save yourself from further embarrassment.
Any calculation is automatically deleted after 30 days though, so you won’t be able to see any embarrassing basic maths you couldn’t do when you first got your phone.
