iRacing on Apple Vision Pro will bring a “level of immersion and fidelity never before seen in sim racing,” says iRacing president Tony Gardner.
Race simulation support through iRacing comes to Apple Vision Pro this week as part of the visionOS 26.4 software update.
visionOS is adding a “foveated streaming” feature, starting with support for Nvidia’s CloudXR technology. This will help power the new experience.
The team behind iRacing detailed Apple Vision Pro compatibility in a blog post on Friday. Apple’s ARKit technology will blend the racing simulator with real world elements, like hands and physical racing hardware.
iRacing for Apple Vision Pro utilizes foveated streaming to render the sharpest content in the driver’s direct line of sight. Apple Vision Pro delivers a uniquely immersive sim racing experience by seamlessly blending your racing rig with the virtual cockpit, aligning your physical steering wheel with the one in-game. iRacers see their physical hands on the wheel, producing an unparalleled experience that ensures racers remain visually connected to their racing rig while using Apple Vision Pro.
To enable this experience, the iRacing software features deep technical integration of CloudXR. Physics calculations and high-fidelity graphic rendering is performed on a PC equipped with NVIDIA’s RTX GPU, while frames are encoded and shared wirelessly over Wi-Fi to iRacing Connect on visionOS.
In addition to iRacing, Apple Vision Pro users can expect X-Plane compatibility for the first time.
Nvidia has also detailed experiences coming with visionOS 26.4 and Apple Vision Pro that extend to manufacturing, design, and healthcare.
Apple released the first visionOS 26.4 Release Candidate last Wednesday. We can probably expect the official version to arrive this Wednesday.
