Shot in close collaboration with the FIA and the organizers of the Formula 1 world championship, F1: the film (our criticism) took advantage of unprecedented access to paddocks and track. Some scenes have been filmed on the fringes of real great prices, especially in Silverstone, with the public and the authentic atmosphere of the competition. Brad Pitt, who embodies a former return pilot on the circuit in a fictitious stable called APXGP, has shot several sequences in conditions very close to reality.

But then, did the actor really drive a Formula 1? Yes … and no, we explain to you.

Formula 2 disguised in F1

For security and logistics reasons, Brad Pitt did not take the wheel of a real F1. Instead, the filming team used modified formula 2 single -seaters, cars with template and already impressive performance, made up with a specific fairing to reproduce the design of current F1s identically.

These hybrid racing cars, designed in collaboration with the Mercedes stable and the engineer Craig Scarborough, were equipped with a personalized aerodynamic pack to resemble the 2024 grid single-seaters, while being more handy and accessible for an actor, however reckless.

Brad Pitt, who followed an intensive training, himself led on the circuit, under the supervision of professional pilots. It was not doubled for basic rolling scenes, which gives the film a realism rarely seen in a sports feature film.

Lewis Hamilton in production

Another guarantee of authenticity: the presence of Lewis Hamilton within the production team. The seven -time world champion has personally ensured that the representation of sport is faithful to reality. He notably insisted that the film shows “the real struggles of a pilot, stress, precision, loneliness”, in his own words.

This involvement also allowed the film to shoot in usually inaccessible places, such as stable garages or certain racing management meetings. Real pilots even make brief appearances, voluntarily blurring the border between fiction and documentary.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick), the film mixes action, emotion and pure adrenaline. The story follows Sonny Hayes (Pitt), a veteran of the race recalled to supervise a young prodigy, embodied by Damson Idris. Between mentorship, technical issues and internal rivalries, F1: the film seeks to attract both pure and hard sports fans and the general public.

The shooting spread over two seasons of F1 to capture a diversity of circuits and weather conditions. Visual realism is supported by the use of on -board cameras and aerial shots, which sometimes recall the nervous style of the documentaries type drive to survive.
