UPDATE: Social media service X appears to have recovered after an outage early on Monday morning. Reports on Downdetector worldwide have returned to normal levels around two hours after the outage began, with many users able to regain access.
X has yet to publicly comment on the cause of the problems. Cloudflare’s CEO, Matthew Prince, confirmed it didn’t experience an outage earlier today, suggesting it wasn’t involved in these issues with X.
Original Story:
The social media network X is currently experiencing an outage, with thousands of users reporting issues across the US and other regions. PCMag is unable to access the service, and if you’re seeing the same issue, you’re not alone.
According to Downdetector, issues began affecting the social media network at 8 a.m. EST on Monday, Feb. 16. Reports grew quickly, peaking at almost 42,000 reports in the US. The number of reports then reduced slightly in the following report.
PCMag found the brand’s logo appearing on a black screen whenever trying to access specific posts or pages on X. If we attempt to access the main homepage, it appears blank with the messaging “Something went wrong. Try reloading.” That doesn’t work, since the same message appears again.
Reports of an outage with Cloudflare’s services began to spike on Downdetector around a similar time. A Cloudflare outage in November last year took down X and other services, including ChatGPT. X also experienced an outage on Jan. 16, which appeared to recover quickly, and it’s unclear whether it was related to Cloudflare’s services.
X issues updates about its problems on the social media network itself, which we can’t see right now, so it’s unclear when the service will resume. Unlike many other brands, X doesn’t run a dedicated status page to explain its work on ongoing issues when its service is down.
