It costs less than expected and goes further, why is the new Twingo a game-changer?

It was the announcement of the year for Renault. The French manufacturer took the floor this Thursday, November 6 to present its brand new Twingo. 100% electric, this 4th generation of the city car will arrive on our roads in 2026. Compact, accessible and more environmentally friendly, it meets consumer expectations and Renault’s objectives in terms of electrification.

An ecological Twingo

For the first time in its 32 years of existence, the Twingo is becoming 100% electric. Under its hood, we find a 60 kW (82 hp) engine. It will be powered by a battery of 27,5 kWh (only) produced by CATL. Unlike modern batteries, Renault has chosen LTP (lithium-iron-phosphate) chemistry here. More economical, this solution is also more environmentally friendly.

Another interesting new feature on this electric Twingo is that it benefits from bidirectional charging (V2G and V2L). Concretely, you will be able to use its battery to operate devices in your home. A popular solution, particularly during times when demand is high on the network.

An economical Twingo

This is the key argument of this Twingo version 2025. Renault wants to offer an accessible electric car. While its R5 is enjoying resounding success in France, the diamond brand intends to drive the point home with its new Twingo. The manufacturer promises a sales Price below the (highly symbolic) 20,000 euros mark. The Twingo should therefore be one of the most affordable electric cars in Europe.

For this price, the Twingo is equipped with a large 10-inch central screen, a digital driver display and modern safety equipment such as lane keeping or emergency braking assistance. A version techno, around 2000 euros more expensive, arrives with other features. It therefore includes adaptive cruise control, a reversing camera and a voice assistant based on ChatGPT-4o mini.

OnePedal: innovation from Renault

It will also be equipped with “OnePedal” technology which offers true regenerative braking. Let’s be clear, this Twingo still has two pedals, one to accelerate, the other to brake, but thanks to this technology the new Twingo will be able to stop completely, simply with regenerative braking. The latter allows, in passing, to recharge the battery and gain autonomy.

An enduring Twingo

If the price of this Twingo version 2025 is its strong point, its autonomy may stand out to you as its biggest weak point. To save money and make this city car accessible, Renault made compromises. On paper, it is impossible to hide the 263 kilometers of autonomy (WLTP cycle) for this new Twingo. Let’s be honest, it’s very little. For comparison, the Renault Zoé (phase 2) when it was released in 2019 has a 52 kWh battery for 386 kilometers of autonomy.

This is enough to make the Renault Twingo your “everyday” car, but for long vacation trips its autonomy may pose a problem. The only good point in this regard is that recharging is quite fast. Renault promises to recover 80% in 30 minutes.

Manufactured in Novo Mestro, in Renault’s Slovenian factory, the first deliveries should take place in early 2026. It will likely be eligible for the ecological bonus.
