Chinese e-commerce company JD.com on Monday completed strategic investments in three embodied intelligence companies: Spirit AI, LimX Dynamics, and EngineAI. Based on the announcements from the three companies, the total investment is estimated to have approached two billion yuan ($280 million) in a single day.

JD.com says it is focusing on supply chain scenarios that drive innovative applications, according to local media outlet Securities Times.

Sources also revealed that JD.com will announce partnerships with several top robotics brands at the upcoming World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in late July. These collaborations will cover consumer products such as AI-powered toys and educational robots.

JD.com invested nearly RMB 600 million ($84 million) in Spirit AI, while the sums invested in LimX Dynamics and EngineAI this round have not been disclosed.

Spirit AI

Founded in February 2024, Spirit AI focuses on general-purpose embodied intelligence by integrating AI brains, robotic hardware, and scenario-based solutions. Its core team includes experts from Loongson Robotics, Tsinghua University, and UC Berkeley. The company has developed the Moz1 humanoid robot featuring force-controlled joints and multimodal foundation models. Spirit AI’s technologies are being prepared for deployment in logistics, new energy, catering, and eldercare.

LimX Dynamics

Founded in January 2022, LimX Dynamics specializes in the development of multi-form legged robots, including bipedal, quadrupedal, humanoid, and wheeled systems. Its flagship products, such as the CL-1 humanoid and TRON 1 biped robot, are capable of navigating complex terrains. The company combines hardware design, reinforcement learning, and large embodied models to create integrated intelligent platforms. Applications span industrial inspection, logistics, research, and service sectors.

EngineAI

Founded in October 2023, EngineAI focuses on the development of humanoid robots. The core product lineup includes the research-oriented SA01, the flagship SE01, and the commercial-grade PM01, targeting educational, industrial, and household applications respectively. The SE01 stands 1.7 meters tall with 32 degrees of freedom and can walk, run, and flip.
