Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com issued a public letter on Sunday addressing its delivery riders, accusing an unnamed rival — widely believed to be Meituan — of reviving the controversial “pick one” practice, where part-time couriers are allegedly forced to choose between platforms or risk being blacklisted.
JD said the tactic has led to a 16–25% decline in rider income, and unveiled emergency measures including job priority for riders’ spouses, increased recruitment, and a policy ensuring no forced exclusivity. The company also pledged to provide free orders for any delivery delayed over 20 minutes, following recent service disruptions.
