KDE Plasma 6.4.5 is out today as the newest monthly point release for the current Plasma 6.4 desktop series. Making this month’s Plasma 6 point release notable are a number of KWin compositor fixes.
Making KDE Plasma 6.4.5 stand out is fixing lag and stuttering on Intel graphics when making use of Plasma’s Night Light feature. For Intel Tiger Lake laptops and newer was what was described as extreme stuttering on brightness adjustments due to KWin’s gamma LUT handling. The gamma LUT adjustments to the DRM back-end are in place for Plasma 6.4.5 along with using the correct color pipeline for the linear night light fallback. The gamma LUT issues initially for Tiger Lake had been known by KDE developers going back to this 2021 bug report.
KWin in Plasma 6.4.5 also adds inert protocol error coverage for the Wayland color management protocol, fixing a V-SYNC issue under Wayland, and various other fixes — including other KWin Wayland fixes.
