Kdenlive 25.04 is out today as the newest feature release to this KDE/Qt-aligned non-linear, open-source video editing application.

Kdenlive brings a new plug-in relying on the SAM2 model for object segmentation that can then be used to remove the background of your videos or applying an effect only to an object. This SAM2 model usage for object segmentation is all handled on the local system entirely.

Kdenlive 25.04 also brings a refactoring of the audio waveforms code to deliver an improved experience in the timeline. There is additionally OpentimelineIO import and export support working nicely with Kdenlive 25.04.

Plus Kdenlive 25.04 brings workflow improvements and a variety of bug fixes.
