JOBS could be skewered at your local kebab shop — as robots replace humans to slice up donor meat.

A top chain is trialling “robotic kebab shavers” at three outlets.

If the cyborgs prove a success, they could be introduced at all 143 German Doner Kebab sites across the UK.

The firm’s boss Simon Wallis said of the doner-delivering droids: “They can do the job of a team member.”

He also claimed they could do better than humans, saying: “They shave the meat more consistently and improve productivity.”

Mr Wallis told The Sun the extra costs from the changes to minimum wages and national insurance contributions in the Budget last year meant GDK had to become more efficient.

But cutting costs by replacing human staff has put customers and rivals into a pitta of a pickle.

Kebab fan Jared Thomas, 31, at GDK’s branch in Finchley, North London, reckoned: “Obviously people shouldn’t lose their jobs because of it.”

And the owner of Brockwell Kebab in South London, said of the tech: “It’s not very authentic to use a robot.

“I think it’s quite lazy.

“It’s not something we’d ever use.

“We want our store to be authentic.”
