KIOXIA GP is the new series of solid state drives that the storage specialist has presented as the next generation of SSDs that will allow the GPU to directly access high-speed flash memory, as an expansion of high-bandwidth memory (HBM) in AI systems.

KIOXIA GP (Super High IOPS SSD) series is specifically designed for meet the growing demands of AI and high-performance computingproviding greater GPU-accessible memory capacity for faster data access in AI system workloads.

KIOXIA says that the NVIDIA Storage-Next initiative addresses the expected shift from compute-intensive to data-intensive workloads and the increased need for GPU-accessible memory space, currently limited by the size of the HBM. Expand usable GPU memory space Enables access to larger data sets and improves GPU utilization by bringing more data closer to computing resources.

Hence, large storage manufacturers are designing drives optimized for GPU-initiated AI workloads. This initiative expands HBM’s capabilities by allowing GPUs to access flash memory. Kioxia supports NVIDIA’s initiative with KIOXIA GP Series SSDs, which use high-performance, low-latency KIOXIA XL-FLASH storage class memory, and is uniquely positioned for this architecture, offering higher IOPS, more granular data access (512 bytes), and lower power consumption per I/O compared to the manufacturer’s conventional TLC SSDs.

“Kioxia fully supports the NVIDIA Storage-Next initiative and will supply SSDs specifically designed to effectively address the need for GPU-accessible memory.”said Makoto Hamada, Senior Director of SSD Division at Kioxia Corporation. “This collaboration is critical to shaping the future of storage architecture for AI”.

KIOXIA believes this class of storage will play a critical role in scaling an efficient and cost-optimized AI inference infrastructure. KIOXIA GP series evaluation samples will be available to selected customers in late 2026.
