If you’re still running Apple Home on the old HomeKit architecture, this is your final reminder: Apple’s migration deadline is tomorrow, February 10. Here’s how to update.

Why is this happening?

Back in October 2022, with the release of iOS 16.2 (and then again with iOS 16.4 after a few bumps in the road), Apple reworked the entire architecture of the Home app to make it more reliable as it rolled out support for the Matter standard.

At the time, the company said the update to the new architecture would be optional for the time being, since users would need to have all their connected devices running software version 16.2 or later.

Last May, Apple announced that iOS 19 would be the last system version to support the legacy Home architecture, and even then, support would end in the fall of 2025.

A few months after that, Apple delayed the cutoff date once again, pushing it to February 10, 2026. That’s tomorrow.

For the past few weeks, Apple has been emailing users to warn them about the deadline, explaining that they should update their Apple Home app to “avoid interruptions with critical alerts, and accessories with features such as AirPlay.”

If you’re still running the legacy Apple Home architecture, see below what you need to do to update.

How to update to the new Apple Home version

  1. Open the Home app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac
  2. Tap or click the More button (three-dot icon)
  3. Select Home Settings
  4. Select Software Update
  5. Tap or click Update Now, then follow the prompts; if you have multiple homes, they will all be updated at once
