A great cordless trimmer with loads of accessories all for a low price.
Quite simply, the LawnMaster MX 24V Cordless Grass Trimmer is brilliant value. It ships with a pivoting, rotating head, telescopic tube, set of wheels, battery, and charger. It’s a little plasticky, and its 1.6mm line can’t handle thicker areas of growth, but for general garden maintenance, it works well and is great value, particularly if you have other tools that use the same batteries.

Key Features
Introduction
As with LawnMaster’s other products, the LawnMaster MX 24V Cordless Grass Trimmer is well-priced and ships with plenty of extras, including a pivoting, rotating head and optional wheels. Automatic line feeding means that you shouldn’t need to manually extend cable line, too.
It’s relatively powerful, although with a limit of single 1.6mm line, those that need to cut larger, tougher areas may want to look elsewhere.
Design and Features
- Automatic line feed
- Runs off 24V batteries
- Pivoting, rotating head
Bold and cheerful is probably the way to describe the LawnMaster MX 24V Cordless Grass Trimmer. It’s a light, plastic trimmer that feels a little cheap; and, at £79.99 for the kit including a 2.0Ah battery and charger, this is a good value trimmer.
There’s a little assembly that needs to be done before the device is ready to use, including fitting the front handle. This has a quick-release mechanism on the side, so that the handle can be folded flat for storage, or adjusted to get a better angle.
LawnMaster doesn’t scrimp on features for this model. In addition to the handle adjustment, the pole is height adjustable, so you can get the perfect length so that you don’t have to stoop over.

In the box, there’s a set of clip-on wheels. They look a bit cheap and make the LawnMaster MX 24V Cordless Grass Trimmer much bulkier, but they’re useful if you struggle to hold a strimmer for long periods and want some help. At just 2.8kg, this isn’t a particularly heavy trimmer.

The front head can pivot, so I could easily find the right angle for general cutting, and it rotates for edging.

There’s also a flower and plant guard that I could kick out when required, to prevent accidentally destroying a plant you do want.

This strimmer is powered by a 24V battery, which is compatible with other devices in the LawnMaster range. Here, it ships with the slow clip-on charger, which takes three hours to recharge a battery. With the Lawnmaster 48V 41cm CLMF4841E-01, you get the one-hour fast chargers.

When ready, the battery slips into the back of the handle. There’s then a safety switch that has to be pressed before the main trigger can be squeezed, bringing life to the trimmer.

Underneath, there’s a 25cm cutting width provided by a single-feed 1.6mm line. That’s enough for most basic jobs, but if you have thicker scrub to cut through, you may want a trimmer that can take a thicker line or work with blades.

A self-feeding mechanism is at work. Each time the LawnMaster MX 24V Cordless Grass Trimmer is turned on, it ejects a little more line; excess line is cut off automatically by the cutter underneath.
That meant that I didn’t have to think too much about the line, although it can mean a little bit of wastage compared to a trimmer that doesn’t have an auto feed. If the line here breaks, the LawnMaster MX 24V Cordless Grass Trimmer should be started and stopped two to three times to release some more line; alternatively, you can release the spool manually.
New spools cost £9.99 for one, although the three for £14.99 is a much better deal.
Using the LawnMaster MX 24V Cordless Grass Trimmer is generally easy, although the design of the handle meant that I needed to physically hold the trimmer out where I wanted to cut. With the Stihl FSA 57, the design of the handle is that it naturally swings out into the cutting position, supported by your forearm, making it more comfortable to use for longer periods.

Performance
- Deals with regular grass well
- Doesn’t like thicker areas of growth
I trimmed the edge of my garden, running the LawnMaster MX 24V Cordless Grass Trimmer up and down the edges of the lawn where the lawn mower couldn’t reach. For general grass growth, this grass trimmer proved more than good enough, easily cutting the grass down to the right height.
I gave it a more difficult test, cutting grass and blackberry vine growth next to the hedge I have. This thicker area proved more of a challenge. I lost some line on the first cut, and needed to use the auto eject mechanism to push more out.
Even then, while I managed to cut to the hedge, there were some thicker bits of growth that the LawnMaster MX 24V Cordless Grass Trimmer couldn’t quite cut through. This is where a more powerful trimmer with thicker line or a brush cutter can work better.
Run time is about 25 minutes off a full charge, which should be enough time to cover a medium-to-large garden. It’s a shame that there aren’t any visible LEDs to show the current charge level.
I measured the strimmer at 82.9dB from head height, which is similar to other grass trimmers that I’ve reviewed.
Should you buy it?
Buy if you want a well-priced and flexible grass trimmer
Compatible with LawnMaster’s 24V batteries, this trimmer is excellent value, comes with lots of accessories, is highly adjustable and works well on general grass.
Don’t buy if you want more power or better ergonomics
For thicker brush, a trimmer that can take thicker line would be useful, while those with larger areas may prefer a model that has dual trimmer line and better carrying ergonomics.
Final Thoughts
The LawnMaster MX 24V Cordless Grass Trimmer is staggeringly well priced, considering the flexibility of head movement and that you get a battery, charger and wheels in the box.
It’s a good cutter for general grass, too. The trade-off is that it’s a little plasticky feeling, and can struggle with thicker growth. If you need a more powerful trimmer, read the guide to the best cordless grass trimmers.

FAQs
Add the wheels and you can walk the trimmer along, rather than having to carry it. That can make it easier to use.
Every time the strimmer is turned on a little bit of line is fed out to keep it at the right length. You can manually extend the line if required, too.
