Samsung has spent 2025 teasing its first Android XR headset, codenamed Project Moohan. Now, a new leak from within one of the company’s own apps says it will be called the Galaxy XR.
Project Moohan was always unlikely to be the final name. Galaxy XR seems like an obvious choice to match the brand’s smartphones, tablets, headphones, and other gadgets. Reports about the headset have also informally referred to it as Galaxy XR all year. But so far, Samsung has stuck with the Project Moohan moniker.
Now, a leak within the Camera Assistant app on the new Samsung Galaxy S25 FE, first spotted by SamMobile, seems to confirm that Galaxy XR is correct. One of the options in the Camera Assistant app says, “Add a 3D capture option to the top of the preview so you can create spatial photos and videos for Galaxy XR headsets,” it says. (It’s not easily viewable on other Samsung devices without sideloading an app update.)
The description sounds similar to spatial photos and videos on iPhone, which are viewable on Apple’s Vision Pro headset. Spatial shots allow you to map a 3D space to give you more detailed environments than a panorama, viewable from within the headset. It sounds like Samsung will allow its phones to do something similar for its XR device.

Otherwise, little else is known about the upcoming Galaxy XR and what functionality we can expect. Samsung has teased the design of its headset at multiple tech events, but we’ve yet to learn what it can do. We might find out soon. Samsung has said its first XR headset will land before the end of the year. It has also teased the launch of its first trifold smartphone.
