A prolific leaker and YouTuber, Moore’s Law Is Dead, has supposedly revealed the specs for a portable PlayStation 6 console.
This is big news. While traditional consoles like the PlayStation 5 will likely remain a fan favourite for years to come, there’s no denying the convenience of a handheld model, especially when the likes of the Nintendo Switch 2 and Steam Deck are so popular.
Although Sony is, of course, yet to confirm a PlayStation 6 Portable, or even the PS6 series as a whole, this tease will certainly be tantalising to fans.
PlayStation 6 Portable specs
The key documentation and specs rumours come fromMoore’s Law Is Dead’s recent YouTube video. Here, he discusses the APU behind the upcoming dockable PS6 console, which is the AMD Canis chip. The processor is said to sport 4 Zen 6c and 2 Zen 6 LP cores, 16 RDNA 5 CUs and a 192-bit LPDDR5X.
Performance specs aside, one of the most exciting rumours is that the PS6 can be docked, much like its Switch 2 competitor. He guesses that the console’s screen will be 1080p and either 60 or 120Hz, which should look sharp on a smaller screen.
Lastly, the PS6 Portable is said to offer backwards compatibility for both PS5 and PS4 games, with apparently no mention of PS3 games in documentation.
PlayStation 6 Portable price and availability
Based on the information bestowed upon him, Moore’s Law Is Dead was able to roughly calculate how much the PS6 Portable is likely to cost. He explains he used publicly available data, websites dedicated to sharing silicon costs and used sheets on gaming products which he leaked himself, to come up with the “final” price range.
Having said that, the video teases that the PS6 Portable will be “closer to the PS5 pricing” than we might have originally thought, which is a welcome thought considering the PS5 has been steadily rising in cost over the last few months. Based on the factors, he estimates the PS6 Canis Portable will sit in the region of $399-$499.
Finally, it is estimated that the PS6 Portable will likely be released around Fall 2027.
