At its Tech World 2025 event in Shanghai on Wednesday, Chinese PC maker Lenovo unveiled its first humanoid robot, LeXiang No.1, calling it a “silicon employee”. The launch signals Lenovo’s entry into the fast-growing world of embodied intelligence and AI.

“Today, many still see Lenovo as a device company, but in the future, intelligent agents may become the core of our business,” said Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing at the event. “AI is making Lenovo’s vision clearer than ever,” he added.

Why it matters: Under the theme AI for Innovation and Productivity, Lenovo’s Tech World 2025 event showcases the company’s growing focus on AI and intelligent agents.

Details: During a live demonstration, the robot performed a tai chi routine, a traditional Chinese martial art renowned for its slow, controlled movements and focus on balance. In a Q&A session, it was able to access Lenovo’s full business data to answer questions.

  • Lenovo’s CTO, Tolga Kurtoglu, explained that the robot’s capabilities are driven by three core intelligent architectures. These include enabling proactive device communication and perception through natural multimodal interactions, integrating local knowledge across devices, platforms, and ecosystems, and providing advanced task autonomy and orchestration. Additionally, security and privacy are fundamental design principles embedded throughout all three capabilities.
  • Lenovo’s strategy for enterprise intelligence is built on a four-layer “device-edge-cloud-network” architecture, forming a hybrid computing infrastructure that integrates both public and private cloud platforms, according to the company. This system supports data collection, storage, and processing, with intelligent scheduling sending data to hybrid clouds for AI model training.
  • The company plans to further showcase the capabilities of its humanoid robot at the 2025 Beijing Humanoid Robot Sports Competition in August, while accelerating its deployment in scenarios such as eldercare and healthcare.

Context: At the event, Lenovo defined its “superintelligent agent” as an advanced AI system designed to enable highly autonomous, intelligent interactions across devices and platforms.

  • The company also launched four smart devices equipped with the Tianxi superintelligent agent: the AI Yuanqi Edition Moto Razr foldable smartphone, the AI Yuanqi Edition Yoga tablet, the world’s first rollable screen AI PC ThinkBook, and the 3D Savior AR smart glasses.
