On Thursday, South Korea’s LG Display said it approved the sale of its 8.5-gen LCD (liquid crystal display) panel production line and module factory in Guangzhou, China, to TCL’s LCD unit, CSOT (China Star Optoelectronics Technology), for RMB 10.8 billion ($1.54 billion). The transaction includes LG Display’s 80% stake in its Guangzhou LCD panel plant and 100% of its LCD module plant and is expected to be completed in March 2025, according to LG Display. LG Display explained that this decision aims to enhance its focus on OLED (organic light-emitting diode) operations, where it holds a competitive edge compared to the saturated LCD market.
