Two Chinese mobile games, Lilith Games’ AFK Journey and miHoYo’s Zenless Zone Zero, have been nominated for Game of the Year in the iPhone category for Apple’s App Store Awards 2024. In the iPad Game of the Year category, Squad Busters, co-developed by Chinese gaming giant Tencent and Finnish developer Supercell, is also a contender. AFK Journey is an open world chess style gacha game with a combat system, while Zenless Zone Zero is an action role-playing game set in a sci-fi dystopia. In October, 34 Chinese companies made it to the global top 100 mobile game publishers by revenue, collectively earning $1.85 billion, which accounted for 35.6% of the total revenue of the top 100 publishers, according to market intelligence platform Sensor Tower.
