LinkedIn’s list of top 50 U.S. startups includes three emerging companies from Seattle area

LinkedIn released its annual list of the top 50 startups in the U.S. on Wednesday, and three Seattle-area companies made the cut.

• No. 18, Chainguard: The cybersecurity company helps customers secure their “software supply chain,” a term used to describe a company’s software production line. Chainguard focuses on helping companies keep their open source software secure and offers tools to manage container images, a core code component of cloud-based applications. Technically based in Kirkland, Wash., the remote startup raised $356 million in April, pushing its valuation to $3.5 billion. It’s ranked No. 3 on the GeekWire 200 index of the Pacific Northwest’s top startups.
• No. 21, Common Room: Founded in 2020 by four Seattle-area tech vets, Common Room aims to help companies build a better conduit between their orgs and people in their communities. It integrates with communication apps such as Slack, Twitter, Discord, and more. The idea is to make “community” a competitive advantage, connecting users with each other and soliciting product feedback. Common Room is No. 89 on the GeekWire 200 and was the 2022 GeekWire Awards Startup of the Year.
• No. 42, Truveta: Founded in 2020, Truveta aims to aggregate medical records data from 30 partner institutions to link treatments with outcomes and underlying health. Its platform has 120 million de-identified patient medical records updated daily. Bellevue, Wash.-based Truveta raised $320 million in January to push its valuation above $1 billion, making it another unicorn to emerge from the Seattle region. It’s No. 4 on the GeekWire 200.

Microsoft-owned LinkedIn generates its top startups based on metrics such as employee growth, job seeker interest, attraction of top talent, and engagement with the company’s LinkedIn page.

The list includes a surge in gaming startups and companies focused on wellness, with many using artificial intelligence to automate tasks and speed up creativity, according to LinkedIn.
