Following the holidays, Linux 6.19-rc4 was released today in working toward the Linux 6.19 stable kernel release in early February.

Among the fixes to land during this New Year’s holiday week were fixing broken MediaTek WiFi driver support for the MT792x wireless hardware and many smaller fixes throughout kernel space. Outside of the typical fixes, there were also several Dell-Alienware, ASUS, and Uniwill / TUXEDO laptop additions via the x86 platform drivers pull where just new device IDs were needed.

Linus Torvalds wrote on the kernel mailing list for the 6.19-rc4 announcement:

“So this rc is still a bit smaller than usual, but it’s not _much_ smaller, and I think next week is likely going to be more or less back to normal.

Which is all exactly as expected, and nothing here looks particularly odd. I’ll make an rc8 this release just because of the time lost to the holidays, not because it looks like we’d have any particular issues pending (knock wood).”

See our Linux 6.19 features/changes overview for a look at all of the new material that’s set to be introduced with Linux 6.19 upon its stable release in early February. With Linus Torvalds indicating he’ll go up to Linux 6.19-rc8 rather than the usual rhythm of tapping out after the -rc7 release, that would place Linux 6.19 stable coming out on 8 February.
