Some news that slipped under the radar prior to the holidays… Linutronix as the Linux consulting firm that has led the real-time “PREEMPT_RT” work and more within the Linux kernel — and Linutronix was acquired by Intel back in 2022 as an independent subsidiary — is beginning a “new chapter”.
In a company post dated late November, Linutronix announced that company founders and managing directors Heinz Egger and Thomas Gleixner are transitioning to advisory consultants with the company. Dr. Wilfried Wessner took over as the new managing director of Linutronix. Wessner had been the director of research and development at Linutronix since 2022.
No other insight was shared for this restructuring but that Linutronix will continue to “build on the strong foundation laid by our founders and guide Linutronix in the next phase of growth.” The post in full can be read on Linutronix.de.
That company news came up today when being curious over longtime Linux kernel developer Thomas Gleixner with a now-merged patch updating his email address across the Linux kernel tree. He was moving off his Linutronix email address and now using his kernel.org email address moving forward.
“In a vain attempt to consolidate the email zoo switch everything to the kernel.org account.”
Gleixner has been responsible for many great upstream improvements to the Linux kernel over the past numerous years and maintainer of various areas of the Linux kernel. That email-address-updating patch was merged ahead of Linux 6.19-rc5 due out in the coming hours.
