The European Division of the Linux Foundation has announced the official launch of the Neonephos Foundationa Initiative dedicated to the progress of EU digital sovereignty. Its mission will be to promote collaboration and innovation around the open cloud infrastructure and the latest generation cloud technologies in Europe, among other things.
Neonephos is one of the first projects related to the Open Source sector that leaves the IPCEI-CIS investment program, and its creation is due to the response of the growing demand for secure, scalable and transparent solutions that support the objectives of digital sovereignty for Europe.
Under their umbrella, top -level organizations, technological suppliers and academic institutions can work. The Neonephos Foundation will therefore serve as a HUB for the development and promotion of Open Source solutions that promote both European companies and the entities of their public sector.
The Neonephos Foundation will focus on three main axes: Advance of the Cloud infrastructure, impulse of digital sovereignty and promotion of collaboration and innovation. To do this, it will be responsible for developing and promoting interoperable cloud technologies adjusted to the needs of European companies and governments.
It will also ensure that organizations maintain complete control of their data and infrastructure, in addition to complying with European regulations. On the other hand, it will offer a neutral environment in terms of suppliers in which collaborators can develop, deploy and climb Native Cloud solutions.
Among the founding members of the Neonephos Foundation are technological companies, cloud suppliers and research institutions. Among its first members are Clyso GmbH, Cyberus Technology, Deutsche Telekom, SAP, Stackit, T-Systems, TNO-Ecofed and 23 Technologies. The Foundation is open to the incorporation of more members and collaborators to involve their development and boost their initiatives. Organizations and professionals who are interested in participating can find more information on the Neonephos website.
Gabriele Columbro, Responsable de Linux Foundation Europestressed that Neonephos «It represents a remarkable step forward in supporting the objectives of Cloud Sovereignty of Europe through the Open Source. Promoting a collaborative ecosystem governed in an open way, we can accelerate innovation developing and integrating with Open Source Native Cloud development blocks, such as Kubernetes, Sylva and LF Networking projects. Together we can take advantage of projects already driven by the Global Ecosystem of the Linux Foundation, in addition to ensuring alienation with the regulatory and critical data protection requirements for the interested parties of Europe«.
