London has been named the world’s second best market for tech talent, behind only San Francisco, according to new research.
The Global Tech Markets: Top Talent Locations report from Colliers ranked international tech hubs on the depth of talent, academic infrastructure, innovation and startup activity and economics and business fundamentals.
The UK capital was ranked in the penultimate spot, beating out the likes of New York, Seattle and Beijing, based on its world-class research institutions and high performing business and investment ecosystem.
Other indicators that factored into the rankings included job growth, output of universities, venture capital flows and productivity.
Europe as a whole performed relatively well in the rankings, with Paris and Dublin also cracking the top 10. EMEA was found to be the most widely represented region in the global top 50 markets, with 22 cities featured.
“Location strategy across Europe for the global technology sector continues to be driven by key cities that possess the deepest and most dynamic talent hubs and digital ecosystems,” said Andrew Hallissey, chief executive officer for global occupier services at Colliers.
“Companies are aligning their talent, innovation, and space strategies – and it’s exciting to see London rank number two in the world.”
The findings put London firmly at the top of Europe, despite recent reports suggesting growth in Paris was starting to outpace it.
