A BRAND new streaming service has launched for kids filled with much-loved shows – and it’s completely free.

Book publishing giant Scholastic is bringing around 400 hours worth of classic hits from its back catalogue to screens.

Huge titles such as Clifford the Big Red Dog, Magic School Bus and Goosebumps will appear on the Scholastic app.

Viewers will also find Garfield and Barney & Friends, as well as Clifford’s Really Big Movie, The Baby-Sitters Club and forgotten 90s gems like Animorphs.

The streaming service is geared towards those aged 12 and under – though some adults who grew up watching these shows will no doubt want to watch too.

It’ll be funded by advertising.

For now, the app is available on Roku and Amazon Fire TV devices like the Fire Stick.

However, there are plans to expand it to other platforms soon.

Scholastic worked with Future Today on the app, who has already already launched other free streaming sites like Fawesome and HappyKids.

“With this new app, we’re ensuring families everywhere will have access to timeless stories that entertain, educate and inspire – backed by a brand they know and trust,” said David Di Lorenzo, SVP Kids & Family at Future Today.

Elianne Friend, VP Digital & Distribution at Scholastic’s 9 Story company said: “We’re seeing strong demand for quality nostalgic content, and the Scholastic brand is trusted by families everywhere.

“Future Today was the ideal partner to help us bring Scholastic’s beloved stories to new audiences.

“We’re excited to build on this momentum and continue expanding Scholastic Entertainment’s incredible catalog across global streaming platforms.”

Get more quality TV for free

By Jamie Harris, Assistant Technology and Science Editor

If you’re tired of paying out on several streaming services like Netflix and Disney+ then there are a growing number of free alternatives around.

While many of these alternatives have been filled with obscure content, more big names like Sky have got on board in recent years offering some quality stuff, which is largely archive but still entertaining.

As well as UKTV, Sony and 5 are among the other players getting involved.

If you haven’t already, give Pluto TV a go, it’s available on pretty much all devices including Fire TV Sticks.

On there you’ll find channels from MTV, with Catfish and Geordie Shore.

Some of the classics are real gems too – I found myself watching long-forgotten episodes of Sabrina the Teenage Witch the other day.
