LIVE-SERVICE games flopped in 2024, but there were a few that rose above to gain fan popularity.
Helldivers 2 was the first major success, despite launching in February alongside a number of other big budget titles like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
The biggest live-service release from later in the year was Marvel Rivals, a hero shooter featuring heroes and villains from the Marvel universe.
Marvel Rivals launched with 33 heroes, including popular characters like Spider-Man, Iron-Man, and Doctor Strange.
However, new heroes are about to enter the game just in time for the launch of the first season.
Marvel Rivals has announced that The Fantastic Four will be joining the game adding up to five new characters.
Reed Richards (Mr Fantastic), Sue Storm (Invisible Woman), Johnny Storm (Human Torch), and Ben Grimm (The Thing), will join the game shortly.
The Fantastic Four’s robot companion Herbie is also pictured in concept art and could be a hero in its own right.
The announcement claims we’ll find out more about the first season and the inclusion of The Fantastic Four in an upcoming trailer.
Marvel Rivals’ first season trailer will drop on Monday, January 6, 2025, at 8am PT / 11am ET / 4pm GMT.
What will appear in the trailer has not yet been revealed but we expect to find out exactly which members of The Fantastic Four will be available and how you can grab them.
We also expect to find out details of in-game events that will take place in the first season.
While we won’t find out more until Monday, fans are already excited about what the first season will offer.
Fantastic Rivals
With the exception of Helldivers 2, Marvel Rivals is the most promising live-service game that has come out of 2024.
The fast-paced gameplay offers something new to players, and we’re sure the popularity of the characters plays a role.
A new Fantastic Four movie featuring Pedro Pascal is scheduled to be released this year, so the addition of these characters for the first season is a perfect tie-in.
