The Direct Rendering Manager (DRM) updates have been submitted for the Mediatek driver in advance of the upcoming Linux 6.16 merge window.
Notable for the Mediatek DRM driver this round is preparing to support HDMI 2.0 with the Mediatek MT8195 and MT8188 SoCs.
Preparation patches have been queued up for working to enable HDMIv2 and version 2 Display Data Channel (DDC) IP for both the MT8188 and MT8195 SoCs. The work doesn’t appear to be fully over the finish line yet but the preparations are being made for HDMI 2.0.
The MT8195 hardware is capable of HDMI 2.1 and driving up to 4K@60 outputs. These tentative patches have been tested by Collabora’s AngeloGioacchino Del Regno up to that 4K@60 threshold as well as dual display use-cases.
