Garvey was named as a sports anchor for KNBC Los Angeles in 2024.

She previously worked for WJLA Washington and started with KNBC in March.

Before Garvey’s time with WJLA, she worked at KMIR Palm Springs and was a production assistant on NFL Network’s NFL Total Access.

She went to school at the University of Arizona and Arizona State University.

Garvey has plenty of knowledge of the Los Angeles sports scene thanks to her father’s history in Major League Baseball.

Steve Garvey joined the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1969 as a 20-year-old first baseman.

He quickly grew into a productive player and starter on the team.

From 1974 to 1981 he was named to eight consecutive All Star teams and won National League MVP in 1974.

Garvey also won four Gold Glove awards during that span.

The Dodgers won the 1981 World Series with Garvey as a member of the team.

After one more season with the Dodgers, Garvey joined the San Diego Padres where he played out the final five seasons of his 19-year MLB career.

He finished his career as a World Series winner, MVP, 10-time All Star, four-time Gold Glover, two-time NLCS MVP, two-time All Star MVP, and Roberto Clemente Award winner.

Garvey underwent a career change last year, running for US Senate in the state of California.

He attempted to parlay his sports reputation into a political seat on Capitol Hill.

Garvey labeled himself as a “conservative moderate” in an attempt to pitch himself to independents and soft Democrat voters.

It would have been a major upset though, and he was eventually defeated handily by Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff.

His daughter now joins news anchors Kathy Vara and Jonathan Gonzales alongside meteorologist Stephanie Olmo on the NBC4 weekend newscasts.

“We are thrilled to welcome Olivia to the NBC4 news team,” said Marina Perelman, NBC4 VP of news.

“She is an outstanding sports journalist who has national expertise and a deep knowledge of local teams.”
