We all love speakers, but the dream of a living room filled with the greatest surround sound system money can buy is one that’s often tantalisingly out of reach due to the costs and inconvenience involved.

And also the noise. While those trying to avoid disturbing their living companions and kids often reach for a pair of headphones, Panasonic’s wireless four-speaker personal surround sound system creates lifelike 3D sound without leaving you feeling isolated, and won’t interfere with your hair, glasses or jewellery.

The SC-GNW30, your personal surround sound system, is worn around the neck, giving it an advantage over a headset, which can become uncomfortable over time as it begins to gently squeeze your head, no matter how thickly padded its earcups are. One of the benefits of a headset is that it’s more than just a set of headphones, with its mic boom coming in handy for gaming chat or making calls: Panasonic’s neck speaker brings AI-assisted mics to keep your voice clear, with the bonus that they don’t obscure your face if you’re in a Zoom meeting.

While the SC-GNW30 is ideal for gaming, it’s also perfect for home cinema use, thanks to an HDMI connection using a dedicated 2.4GHz wireless link with a low latency of less than 20 milliseconds that can output to two devices at once. Connect the transmitter to the HDMI output of your TV or amplifier, and you can experience six-channel audio swirling around your ears. Immerse yourself in blockbuster scenes and heart-pounding football action with rich room filling sound that envelops you while keeping things quiet for everyone nearby.

The SC-GNW30 uses a pair of finely tuned microphones to pick up your voice with impressive clarity, while intelligent noise‑reduction tech strips away background distractions so your team hears every word. Stepping away for a moment is just as simple, tap the mute button and the blue lights turn red, giving you an instant visual cue that you’re not going to be heard. And with its Bluetooth capabilities, you can link your smartphone effortlessly, adding a whole new layer of convenience and freedom.

Like you never heard before

Whatever kind of entertainment you’re enjoying, the speaker configuration in the Panasonic’s personal surround sound system is remarkable. It features four 38mm speakers arranged in a square around your head, delivering an immersive surround sound experience that places sounds in the correct spatial area. The sound can be customised with six distinct profiles, including options for music, movies, RPGs, FPS games, plus dedicated settings for microphone use and stereo sound. Additionally, you can create your own EQ presets through the device’s PC software.

An 8-band EQ has been added to both front and rear speakers, allowing independent frequency adjustments for balanced listening.

This innovative speaker comes with nine separate sound modes to tailor its output to whatever you’re listening to. The RPG gaming mode, for example, creates a sense of intensity and reality that lets role-playing gamers feel like they are inside the game’s virtual world. The cinema mode can turn movie night into a full home theatre experience, balancing deep, powerful bass with crisp, detailed highs, so every whisper, explosion, and soundtrack swells with cinematic intensity to pull you into the story. Then there’s advanced music mode, designed for rich, balanced stereo playback. When surround sound is enabled, it expands into a wide, immersive soundstage, capturing the energy of a live performance and wrapping you in every note.

Sports mode helps bring the thrill of the stadium into your living room, with enhanced crowd noise, commentary, and spacious acoustics, so you can feel the energy of every play, goal, or victory like you’re right there in the stands.

Alternatively, you can use Bluetooth to pair the speaker with your phone, tablet or TV, using it as a stereo playback device. It’s supremely versatile, and unlike a pair of headphones leaves your ears uncovered so you can hear the activity going on around you rather than feeling cut off.

Panasonic is known for its high-quality, immersive personal audio technology that never compromises on sound or usability. To experience the SC-GNW30, check it out on the Panasonic store.
