Meituan is reportedly set to officially launch in Riyadh in September or October, according to Chinese media outlet NBD, as the food delivery giant looks to replicate its growth in Hong Kong and mainland China in Saudi Arabia. Meituan is in the process of persuading international restaurant operators, local Chinese restaurants, and local cuisine-focused restaurants to join the takeaway service ahead of its launch, the report noted, with the company already sending dozens of staff to the Middle East to support its expansion. Tony Qiu, Meituan’s international business leader, has since earlier this year reported directly to CEO Wang Xing, who took over the running of company’s overseas operations at the beginning of 2024.
