Microsoft Azure offers an administered environment hosted in the cloud with numerous payment services for use (PayG), many organizations prefer to maintain their local data for regulatory compliance reasons or data governance. To address this practical case, its customers, Microsoft has announced the public preliminary version of a virtual machines conversion tool.
The usefulness of conversion of virtual machines can be used as an extension of the Windows Administration Center. He specializes in converting VMware virtual machines to Windows Server with Hyper-V. To do this, it establishes a connection with the virtualization environment without agents and begins to Replicate data from the origin without interruptions or inactivity times. Next, the virtual origin machine goes out after user consent and the data is transferred to the destination host.
Microsoft has assured that they can migrate up to 10 virtual machines simultaneously in minutes of minuteswith virtual machines based on BIOS automatically assigned to generation 1 and UEFI -based virtual machines assigned to generation 2, maintaining starting settings. VM Conversion also supports several hard drives and the migration of invited virtual machines of Windows and Linux.
Microsoft explains that all this is achieved by making previous checks that validate the critical components and configurations of the guest virtual machine. Any problem detected during this process must be manually corrected by IT administrators.
Subsequently, VM Conversion uses the monitoring of change blocks (CBT) to create a virtual machine replica, guaranteeing at the same time that it remains operational. Once it turns off, another replication is made that captures the differential changes between the first replica and the state off, and transfers them.
The extension is completely free and can be installed from the Windows Administration Center. Of course, there are many other technical details, which you can read in this post.
