A MAJOR TV shake-up has been revealed today as a popular lifestyle channel shuts down to make way for a brand-new free-to-air launch.

This is part of a massive refresh across different channels, all getting a new look for 2026.

The move means a channel previously hidden behind a paywall is now available to everyone for the first time.

The update reveals that all home and garden programming is moving to a new single home, ensuring fans don’t miss their favourite shows.

TLC is the big brand landing on Freeview today, taking over the slot formerly held by HGTV.

While HGTV has officially closed down, its hit shows like Celebrity IOU and My Lottery Dream Home are moving over to the channel Really.

The change reveals a total makeover for TLC as it moves to Freeview Channel 40. Known for reality hits like 90 Day Fiancé, the channel is now adding big-name sitcoms and comedy to its daily lineup.

The biggest reveal is the return of the hit panel show Mock the Week on February 1.

After being cancelled by the BBC in 2022, it’s back with Dara Ó Briain hosting special one-hour episodes.

Viewers can also catch the UK premiere of The Big Bang Theory spin-off, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, on January 18.

Bosses say the new mix offers a blend of “big laughs, real emotions and true escapism.”

This marks the end of an era for the HGTV frequency, which has been a high street staple under various names since 1997.

Now, the broadcaster is betting that a mix of medical marvels and satirical comedy will keep the nation’s remote controls busy.
