This Sunday sees the TD Five Boro Bike Tour return to New York City for its 47th ride.

The famous charity bike ride – the biggest of its kind in the country – will take place on Sunday, May 4, with some 32,000 cyclists navigating the 40-mile course through all five boroughs.

Beginning at 7:30am in Manhattan, the route then heads north to the Bronx before returning to Manhattan.

It then heads through Queens and Brooklyn before ending on Staten Island.

Naturally, bridges and highways will be closed off to traffic along the 40-mile route – which includes FDR Drive, the Madison Avenue Bridge and the Verrazzano Bridge.

NYC DOT encourages drivers to leave their cars at home and use alternative modes of transportation over the weekend.

This includesn regional rail lines, the subway and bus system, as well as ferries, cycling, and walking.

Among the bikes set to take to the streets of The Big Apple include recumbent, tandem, tricycles and even unicycles, with cyclists coming from across the country and around the world – all with different skill levels.

The event, which is organized by Bike New York, helps to raise money for the organization to provide free bike education, advocacy and community outreach programming.

Ken Podziba, CEO of Bike New York, said: “The TD Five Boro Bike Tour is a celebration of New York City and the transformative power of cycling.

“On this one special day each year, 32,000 cyclists from around the world—of all skill levels—come together to experience the thrill of riding 40 car-free miles through the greatest city on Earth.”

This comes as drivers on a major highway in another US state were left stunned earlier this week when some $800,000 worth of dimes was left scattered across the road.

Clean-up crews were forced to shut down part of the highway in northwest Texas after a truck carrying the newly minted coins overturned – spilling eight million of them onto the road.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday morning, happened after the 18-wheeler veered off the road near the town of Alvord, Texas.

It shut down the highway for around 14 hours, with crews seen using vacuums around the crash site to pick up the loose change.

Some were even seen sifting through the dirt to hand-pick the coins.

Street sweepers were also called to the scene to help, along with personnel from the United States Armored Company.
