State Bank of India on 1st April faced a major outage, affecting customers nationwide. Downdetector app shows data regarding outages in the bank’s app services. The outage began at 8:15 AM on Monday with more than 800 complaints across the country.
Here’s What Happened:
State Bank of India (SBI) faced a major outage including technical issues nationwide. Customers from all over India complained about the outage facing difficulties in payment and several other services. In addition, there have been numerous issues in mobile banking and fund transfers. As per downdetector data, the outage was maximum at 11:00AM till 11:30AM.
NPCI has issued an official statement and SBI released an official statement via its X account. The statement says, “Due to Annual Closing activities our digital Services will be unavailable to our esteemed customers between 01:00 pm to 04:00 pm (IST) on 01.04.2025. We request you to use UPI Lite and ATM Channels for uninterrupted services. We apologise for the inconvenience caused.”
NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) also mentioned about issues regarding intermittent transaction declines. NPCI said, “Today due to financial year closing, some of the banks are facing intermittent transaction declines. UPI system is working fine, and we are working with the concerned banks for necessary redressal.”

New UPI Rule:
Now all the banks and Payment Service Provider (PSP) apps are now mandatory to update their mobile numbers on a weekly basis. Additionally, UPI users now have to provide clear permission in order to link their phone numbers to their accounts. Other than this, if your mobile number that is linked to your account is inactive for a long period, then it will be delinked from your account.
Today due to financial year closing, some of the banks are facing intermittent transaction declines. UPI system is working fine, and we are working with the concerned banks for necessary redressal.

List of People who can suffered from this:
- Users whose have inactive numbers
- Someone who is changing their mobile numbers frequently
- People who have surrendered their SIM
- If your mobile number is reassigned
