Upskilling edtech unicorn Multiverse has appointed Amazon’s VP for product and technology Jay Richman as its new chief product officer.

A veteran of tech product management, Richman has been at Amazon for the past three years where he led the development of agentic AI systems.

Before that Richman spent almost a decade at Spotify, holding a handful of roles including most recently as VP of monetisation.

His new appointment to Multiverse will see him relocate from New York to London to oversee the development of the company’s edtech platform that uses both human teachers and a AI coach Atlas, inspired by Socratic principles of tutoring.

“Multiverse feels like the right company, in the right place, at the right time,” Richman said.

“While much of the tech industry is focused on humans making machines smarter, Multiverse is taking a different bet: building machines that make humans smarter. Central to this is building a great product experience that customers want to keep coming back to, which will help us to scale this mission globally.”

Richman’s background has seen him work on, among other things, the launch of the Hulu streaming platform and Spotify’s advertising, subscription and podcast businesses.

“Jay has built technology platforms that reshape how people interact with media, commerce, and content, driving meaningful shifts in behaviour at scale,” said Multiverse chief executive Euan Blair.

“As we expand our efforts to equip as many people as possible with the skills to seize the opportunities of technology, Jay’s experience building enterprise-grade AI systems deployed globally will be vital.

“He shares our conviction that AI’s greatest value lies in expanding human capability and judgment, rather than just driving short-term efficiency.”
