Forget the M-series iPads with their laptop-grade processing – there’s only one iPad you need and it’s called the iPad 10th Gen.

Look, I get it – whenever you’re investing in a new phone or tablet, it’s always tempting to splurge and opt for one of the more expensive options to feel a degree of luxury. Take it from me however, when it comes to iPads, unless you’re an animator who’s going to make full use of the Apple Pencil Pro, you don’t need Apple’s premium-level tablets.

How do I know this? Well, I’ve been using the iPad 10th Gen for years (in fact I’m writing this very article on one) and it’s served me brilliantly. It was already my go-to recommendation for folks interested in a new tablet, but it’s just been made even better by the fact that the iPad 10th Gen is now down to just £269 at Argos – the lowest price the retailer has ever listed it for.

Between the productivity capabilities of iPadOS, alongside plenty of entertainment options from gaming to streaming, the iPad 10th Gen is an epic tablet that’s now even more of a bargain.

Part of the reason why the iPad 10th Gen is so great is that, for the most part, the core iPadOS experience is pretty much the same regardless of which iPad you go for. Aside from the inclusion of Apple Intelligence on newer models, you’re not really missing out on much.

Just as an example, with access to apps like Google Docs, Canva, Notion and Zoom, the iPad 10th Gen is a productivity beast. Whenever I’ve felt like working from a nearby cafe, I’ve been able to bring the iPad with me (with the Magic Keyboard Folio case in tow) and get just as much work done as with a traditional laptop.

Because of the seamless nature of Apple’s ecosystem, I’ve also been able to connect immediately to the hotspot set up on my iPhone and avoid using public Wi-Fi, and dive into a productivity playlist as soon as I take my AirPods Pro 2 out of their case. I find the whole process far more intuitive than when trying to connect multiple devices to a Windows laptop.

Of course, the iPad isn’t designed entirely around work – far from it. Whenever I’ve been travelling, I’ve been able to download and watch films and TV shows from apps like Netflix, Disney Plus and more.

The iPad 10th Gen also holds its own as a decent device for gaming. You can dive into tons of great titles via Apple Arcade and the App Store, or enjoy some triple-A titles over the cloud from services like Game Pass or Nvidia GeForce Now.

This humble tablet can do it all, and when it’s available for just £269, I’d argue that no other tablet compares to the sheer value for money that Apple provides here.
