If you purchased one of Neato Electronics’ robot vacuums before the company shut down in 2023, we have bad news if you’re still using your device.

Neato is permanently cutting off cloud support for its discontinued line of robot vacuums, such as the Neato D10 and D9, according to emails the company sent to customers and seen by The Verge. This means you won’t be able to control your device via the MyNeato app or create customized cleaning routines, making manual operation the only option going forward.

Neato was founded in 2005 by three of Stanford alumni. The Bay Area-based firm competed with rivals such as iRobot and Ecovacs in the burgeoning space before being acquired by German manufacturing firm Vorwerk in 2017. By 2023, Vorwerk said Neato would shut down.

Neato originally promised maintain cloud support and provide parts and service for its devices for five years, but is instead shutting it down at only the two-year mark.

This has unsurprisingly prompted outcry from some of its users. A petition has been set up calling on the company to continue support. One user on Reddit dubbed his Neato device “a $500 decorative brick,” while others said they were “disappointed” in the manufacturer.
