The Women’s Football World Cup is coming to Netflix. FIFA confirms the signing of an agreement with the famous platform to broadcast the next two editions of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in the United States. The decision concerns the next edition which will take place in 2027 in Brazil and that of 2031. The host country(ies) of this future edition will be designated subsequently by the FIFA Congress.
An unprecedented agreement for distribution in the United States
While the announcement suggested a more global agreement, the FIFA press release confirms that it only concerns American fans of women’s football, as well as Puerto Rico. Netflix will offer a dual broadcast in English and Spanish in the United States.

The red giant will also produce an exclusive docuseries on women’s football ahead of the two competitions. For Gianni Infantino, FIFA President, Netflix “will have an important role to play in promoting women’s football to millions of viewers”. The platform recalls that it already offers content related to football such as Football World Cup: Americans under pressure, World Cup Captains (in partnership with FIFA), Neymar: perfect chaos, Beckham, Sunderland: against all odds or even Boca Juniors, a club apart. Soon, the platform will broadcast documentaries on Vinícius Júnior and José Mourinho.
Netflix continues its offensive in sport
After acquiring the rights to NFL matches, the SVoD platform is further weaving its web in the world of sport. The Women’s World Cup will become the first sporting competition acquired in its entirety by Netflix. It confirms the diversification strategy for the firm, particularly in the United States where competition is tough with Amazon and Apple. The three giants are increasingly relying on sport to attract new subscribers, as seen with MLS for Apple. For its part, Amazon Prime Video broadcast Ligue 1 and Roland Garros and is preparing to broadcast part of the NBA TV rights in France.

For its part, Netflix has stood out for years with documentaries like Formula-One : Drive to Survive and more recently with the broadcast of the fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson. The platform’s servers have also encountered some difficulties, but this does not dampen its appetite for sport. Netflix will also recover WWE on a global scale in 2025 (but not in France), but remains shy regarding the rights in France. In an interview with Les Echos, Greg Peters, co-boss of Netflix, explains that sports rights “incredible dears”. It’s not tomorrow that subscribers will see Ligue 1, the Champions League on Netflix.
As for the broadcast of the Women’s World Cup, the France Télévisions and M6 groups shared the last edition of 2023.
