Netflix is set to become the new streaming home for Universal movies sooner than we expected. Back in October 2024, Netflix and Universal announced a fresh agreement that meant the streaming giant would get Universal and Focus Features live-action movies (after their initial premiere on Peacock) from 2027.

However, new reports have emerged, confirming that Netflix U.S. will now get new live-action Universal movies from January 2026, with “Megan 2.0” — which will come to the streaming service on Monday, Jan. 26 — set to be the first arrival under this new arrangement (as previously reported by What’s On Netflix).

Per the original terms as laid out in this Netflix press release, Netflix U.S. will get new live-action Universal Filmed Entertainment Group (UFEG) titles “no later than eight months following theatrical release.”

Here’s what that initial announcement said: “As part of the new agreement, Netflix will continue to have exclusive rights to UFEG animated films and, starting in 2027, will add live-action films no later than eight months following theatrical release.

“After the initial premiere on Peacock, Netflix will have a 10-month window during which these films are available only on Netflix before they return to Peacock. Netflix will also license rights to Universal’s full animation and live-action film slate for additional windows in subsequent years, as well as rights to select titles from Universal’s vast film library.”

This is big news for Prime Video subscribers, specifically, as Amazon’s streamer had been the regular destination for UFEG live-action movies since 2022.

As a final note, that same agreement also saw Netflix renew its licensing deal for animated releases (including those from Illumination and DreamWorks Animation).

In addition to “Megan 2.0,” What’s on Netflix also reports that Netflix is now due to get the live-action remake of “How to Train Your Dragon” on February 10. Before that, Ethan Coen’s neo-noir comedy/mystery movie “Honey Don’t!” will come to the streamer on February 3.

Thinking back to Universal’s other releases in 2025, this also means Netflix should be home to the likes of “Jurassic World Rebirth,” Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Bugonia,” “Black Phone 2,” “Wicked: For Good,” and “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” in the future.

Looking ahead to Universal’s 2026 slate, this also means Netflix will eventually become home to one of the most-anticipated releases of the current year: Christopher Nolan’s new adaptation of “The Odyssey,” which is due to hit theaters over the summer.
